Car history: |
From 1965 through 1975, the history of the car is unknown.
From approximately the mid 70's to 1984, car was owned by a construction worker in Mobile, Alabama. He reportedly drove it daily. Alabama plate number was 2A81117, (expired May of 1985). Car was sold to George V. Crafton of Nederland, Texas in 1984. He paid $6,000 and spent $15,000 in restoration costs. George's last known address was 6248 32nd Street Groves, Texas 77619. The Texas plate # was 477GPH.
When George got the car, it was painted green. Transmission ran OK, clutch was bad. It had a big block engine hood and mag wheels on it. It had a Holley 4 barrel and high rise intake manifold, with aluminum rib valve covers. The body was stripped down to the glass. It had the original panels and they had never been hit. Two fender panels were cracked from age and were replaced. Cost of body work was around $4,000. The car was painted with black lacquer paint back to its original factory color by Mike Flash of Beaumont, TX for $1500. Interior was in poor condition, seat frames were sandblasted/painted and seats were redone in factory original Saddle vinyl. Obtained new grill and added front and rear bumpers. New instrument panel installed. Purchased new windshield washer motor and tank. Installed new radiator, not original style. Replaced mag wheels with steel wheels painted black. Purchased auxiliary hardtop (63 or 64, painted red) and had it repainted black, with the car. He drove the car for 2-3 months and had it stored in his garage for 5 years.
The car was sold in 1990 to Mickey T. Geisler 3431 Park Royal Kingwood, Texas 77339. He paid $15,000 and spent $7,000 in restoration costs. He repainted the car in 1991 (black lacquer). Restoration also included rebuilt carburetor, new exhaust system, replaced exhaust manifolds to later model units, replaced radiator, installed 66 hubcaps and new saddle convertible top.
The car was sold to John Pirretti, 5502 Valley Lark Court Kingwood, Texas 77345 on December 9, 1991 for $26,000. The car remained in Texas until 1993 when it was moved to New Fairfield, CT. It remained in Connecticut until October 2002 when he moved to Palm Coast, Florida.
During the past 14 years, the car has had substantial additional restoration work completed, including suspension, brakes and numerous detailing items. It has won many trophies in local car shows in Texas and Connecticut.
In 2007, the engine and transmission were removed from the car. The engine was completely torn down and rebuilt, including new pistons, cam, hardened exhaust seats, valves, etc. The original Muncie shifter was replaced with a new Hurst shifter, with factory-style shift stick.
June 2016 car moved to San Antonio,TX November 2016 Gear Box rebuilt and new top installed |
